Are you thinking about becoming a Treatment Home Foster Parent?

Here are some things to think about:

At risk children have a better chance of success in a home environment.

Treatment Home Parents give children a chance to be a part of a strong and stable family, learn to develop life skills, and reach toward positive outcomes in their daily lives.

Treatment Home foster parents are licensed as professional therapeutic foster care providers, a specialization allowed because of the close supervision provided by staff. Foster Families can qualify for up to two children in their home.

Being a treatment home foster parent can make it possible for one of the parents to be a stay-at-home parent. Because this is a treatment program, it is paramount for the welfare of the foster child to be home with the foster parents after school and during vacations.

What kind of support do I receive as a Treatment Home Parent?

There is a great amount of support for Treatment Home Parents through the program supervisor, support meetings, close monitoring of progress, and program adjustment to reflect changing needs.

The support team includes family therapist, individual therapist, life skills specialist, child family team, and other professionals directly involved with the case.

During weekly sessions, effective methods for supervising, disciplining, and encouraging the youth will be discussed.

Transition back to the youth's family:

The youth will be taught how to do well in a family setting and at school with intensive supervision and consistent discipline.

The levels of supervision and discipline will be adjusted in line with the youth's level of progress or lack thereof.

Throughout the placement, the biological or adoptive family will participate in the program. The biological parents will have opportunities to practice skills during home visits. The parents will have improved ability to provide a successful home environment once the youth returns home.
